Greetings,
Welcome to the latest edition of our Cosmic Update newsletter - better late than never. In this update, I'm excited to share my experiences from HeroesCon 2024, where I was honored to be a featured guest.
HeroesCon 2024
From June 14-16, comic fans from everywhere flocked to the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, for HeroesCon 2024. Unlike many other major conventions that feature a mix of TV, movies, and video games, HeroesCon is dedicated almost exclusively to comic books, making it a paradise for comic book aficionados … such as myself.
As always - I was putting forth my best effort to promote the Cosmic Times brand and our books (many written by yours truly). To my surprise I had many fans from last year's HeroesCon show up looking for what was new, several picking up the latest issue of The Good The Bad and The Prehistoric as well as the Void of Heroes: Subterranean Dawn trade paperback. Our table was abuzz with activity, in part due to our neighbor the legendary JK Woodward. He is an incredible artist who I knew from his Star Trek work for IDW. Not only did I get to know JK, I got to watch him crank out a stunning TMNT Krang commission, and I also was privileged enough to meet his wonderful family.
HeroesCon Drink & Draw
One of the weekend’s standout events was the HeroesCon Drink & Draw on Friday night. This super chill event, where artists create live drawings, was not only a fantastic showcase of talent but also a fundraiser for Parkinson’s Research, something that has recently touched my comic book circle of friends. I submitted a small piece of art and bought the souvenir t-shirt (with Groo art by Sergio Aragonés) to show my support.
HeroesCon Annual Art Auction
Saturday night brought my favorite event of the weekend - the HeroesCon Annual Art Auction. The auction featured stunning pieces from some of the BEST comic book artists working today. So many stunning works on display it was a almost overwhelming. The TWO big winners were Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers piece selling for an impressive $11,000 and Skottie Young’s Deadpool & Wolverine artwork fetching a remarkable $15,000. Other standout pieces came from talented friends like Jeff Dekal, Jamie Jones, and Steve Bryant, making it yet another unforgettable night.
Community and Connections
HeroesCon is the apex of the comic book community, always has been and always will be. The show is as much about reconnecting with old friends as it is about meeting new ones. Much like a yearly high school reunion I had the pleasure of catching up with numerous creators, and friends. I’m sure I'll forget some names but I got to pal around with long-time friend and fellow creator Austin Janowsky, Avengers, Supergirl, & Buffy artist Karl Moline, esteemed Spider-Man artist Alex Saviuk, the inker for our Takedown cover Mark Stegbauer, longtime friend and amazing robot artist Graven Ravenwolf, my comic book idol Jim Shooter, Mr Cowabunga Kyle Willis, Mandalorian artist Georges Jeanty, Tom & Jake with Pop Culture Playground, and so many more!
The HeroesCon Experience
As with years past HeroesCon has some of the best attendees anywhere, true comic fans celebrating what they love. Not enough can be said about the stellar HeroesCon staff, creating an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. This year's convention once again demonstrated why it's called “America’s Favorite Comic Convention.” HeroesCon 2024 was an unforgettable experience.
Looking Forward to HeroesCon 2025
As I think about the incredible memories from this year's event, I'm already looking ahead to HeroesCon 2025, scheduled for May 31-June 1. Thank you to everyone who visited my table and made HeroesCon 2024 an extraordinary experience. I can't wait to see you all there for another celebration of the comic book community.
Stay cosmic,
